ISB Sample Essays - MBAkarma

ISB’s One Year MBA, better known as Post Graduate Program  in Management asks for essays as a part of the written application. The purpose of the essays is to highlight your compelling reasons to pursue the program and highlight the strength of your candidature. You could take a direction from the ISB sample essays presented below. However, do not use this as a template for multiple reasons. One this candidate’s story will not be your story. Tell your story in your own unique way. Also plagiarism will affect your application negatively. So consider this as a guideline to understand what succeeds in ISB applications.

ISB Sample Essays

Give 3 reasons as to why you should be selected to the class of 201X? These reasons should ideally differentiate you from the applicant pool and should be backed with some data. (300 words max)

1. My Past-Textile Engineer

I am a graduate of the B.Tech- Textile; from XXX. Its ‘Foundation-Course’ common across all specializations made me sensitive towards all aspects of engineering and over four years I developed a unique perspective.

Moreover, I was one of the most active students at XXX across all domains- academics or extra-curricular. I co-founded the theater group, directed-acted in six professional theater productions, personally welcomed Mr. L.K. ABC and Mr. Shahnawaz XYZ at our campus inauguration, choreographed several cultural shows, freelanced for FM Radio, and still achieved Top Rank across all centers in the final industry internship.

I not only belong to an exclusive group, but have also excelled in it.

2. My Present-Textile Retail

Most professionals in my field have great management degrees but low technical skills. I am one of few who signify threshold of a new revolution- Professionals with sound technical skills of textile, returning to school to prepare for management roles. My industry gives me an understanding of the diversity in India while my profession requires me to be a master of all trades. Both give me a rich experience to share.

3. My Future-Brand Management

I visualize the textile industry stabilizing within next 5-7 years and opening doors for the next sector- Luxury-Market. Post MBA, I want to join this ‘distinct’ sector and learn the tricks of trade while growing in the industry. When the Luxury market booms, I want to be prepared as a pioneer to write a new growth story of managing top brands in India.

I believe that ‘My Past’- a unique skill-set, ‘My Present’- an exclusive experience and ‘My Future’- a distinct perspective provide me a distinct identity, which will add to the much essential diversity in  the class of 201X.
